Helpful Adoption Travel Site

Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season! I was forwarded the most helpful, adoption-related travel site that I wanted to pass along:

http://www.federaltravel.com/index2.html

This company is run by a couple who has adopted, and knows about traveling on a moments notice. They are able to help you get discounts on airfare, rental cars and hotels. I know when we adopted our daughter, we had to stay in the hotel for more than two weeks, so this might be a service that could save a little money! :)

Congratulations Kathy and Jason!!

I have to send out a big congratulations to my friends, Kathy and Jason. They signed up with us on Oct. 16th. They got their application in to one of our agencies on Nov. 5th. They were matched the very next day, and their son was born last Wed. How is that for fast?? :) I'm so excited for them and so thankful to have been a part of their journey! Congrats:)

I also wanted to pass on another company who is celebrating National Adoption Month.
Shop at any Barnes & Noble nationwide November 27, 28, and 29th and B&N will donate up to 20% of proceeds to help find forever families for foster children. Use the code 416859 at checkout.
What a great way to support adoption! :)

A few of our agencies are posting new situations very soon, so I'll post an update ASAP! :)

November is National Adoption Month!!

In November, the President makes a Proclamation declaring November National Adoption Month. I read this today:
A PROCLAMATION

All children deserve a safe, loving family to protect and care for them. In America, thousands of young people are waiting for that opportunity. During National Adoption Month, we honor those families that have strengthened America through adoption, and we recommit to reducing the number of children awaiting adoption into loving families.

America is a country rich in resources and filled with countless caring men and women who hope to adopt. These individuals come from all walks of life, united in their commitment to love a child who is in need of the protective arms of a parent. We must do more to ensure that adoption is a viable option for them. By continually opening up the doors to adoption, and supporting full equality in adoption laws for all American families, we allow more children to find the permanent homes they yearn for and deserve.

I love it! Something we can all support politically and who can say that these days?? :) Happy Adoption month to all of those touched by adoption, all of those waiting to adopt, the amazing first parents who love so much, and to those who are made parents through adoption!
- Romans 8:14-17, “For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received the spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, ‘ABBA, Father’. The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God and if children heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.”

Christian Adoption Consultants (CAC) advises and guides adoptive couples through the domestic adoption process. CAC does not act as a placement agency or facilitator. CAC co-founders, Malcolm and Amy Young also operate Hope for Adoption, Inc., a fully licensed child placing agency in Georgia.

Christian Adoption Consultants, LLC recommends adoptive families work with only with licensed adoption agencies across the US. We recommend adoption agencies which are licensed by their state and have a proven track record for successful and legal adoptions with Christian Adoption Consultants clients. The situations that are listed as "available" are for children who will be born in the future and will most likely be placed for adoption.

When potential birth mothers select an adoption agency, that agency is responsible for assisting the birth mother to find prospective adoptive parents. Most of the time the birth mother selects a family after reviewing several family profiles (which is sometimes called "dear birth mother letter"). Adoption is a risk--- birth parents may change their mind and decide to parent or place the child with a family member.

Christian Adoption Consultants simply posts these "available adoption situations" to notify our existing and prospective clients. The "available situations" list in no means guarantees a particular baby or child. It simply lists situations from the agencies we recommend, which have not been matched with a prospective adoptive couple at the time they are listed. The situations listed are not affiliated with Hope for Adoption, Inc.

If you are a prospective adoptive couple and would like for your family profile to be presented to a birth mother or be considered by an agency to adopt, please contact us and we can help you select a consulting package. CAC charges a fee for consulting services offered. Services include adoption education, home study agency recommendation, adoption agency recommendations, profile services, DVD services, and adoption counseling recommendations. Each adoptive couple must be home study approved to be presented or considered by a birth parent for an adoption. Each adoptive couple must also apply to the licensed adoption agency that is placing the child.

More Info on Books About Adoption

I know I've blogged before about children's books and other books about adoption, so I had to share this great resource I found.
THIS site has a really huge, comprehensive catalog of books not only for children regarding all types of adoptions, but for those thinking about adopting, in the process of adopting, or even those of us raising children who came to be ours via adoption.
I've spent WAAYYY too much time on there today:), so I wanted to pass the info along!!

Adoptive Families Article

Hello! I hope everyone had a great 4th of July! We had hoped to show Lily the fireworks for the first time, but she was FAST asleep an hour before they started. That's my girl - she's a great sleeper! :)

We subscribe to Adoptive Families magazine, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has adopted or is in the process. They have the best articles! There was one this month about the wait. It can feel unbearable and like there is no way you can wait longer, but this article beautifully details not just the wait but that moment that a baby is placed in your arms and you know that every second of the wait was well worth it. It's so difficult - I know; I've been there. But I honestly believe the children meant for us come to us. We experienced a failed match before Lily was born, and as painful as it was, that baby was meant to be parented by his birth mom. And if that had worked out for us, we wouldn't have our beautiful daughter who WAS meant to be with us:)
If you're interested, I'll link the article HERE.

I also want to let you and any other potential adoptive families know that we have many new situations coming to us from the agencies we work with. Check out our website or email me anytime for more info.
Have a great day! :)

Gracious Answers to Awkward Adoption Questions

Wendy (Thanks, Wendy!!!), author of THIS great blog, posted an awesome article from Adoption.com called, "Gracious Answers to Awkward Adoption Questions." I just read it and absolutely loved it! We are a family via transracial adoption and as our daughter gets older, we are asked more and more of these questions, and I really want to answer the best way I can to show her how proud we are of her and her heritage and that adoption is just another way families are created.

The entire article can be found HERE. One of my favorite sections states:

"Responses such as the above can gently educate others, especially if said with a smile. BUT WE ARE ANSWERING PRIMARILY FOR OUR CHILDREN'S EARS. In the few seconds that we have to prepare our response, we need to make a quick decision as to what words will best support our child's self-esteem, protect the child's privacy about his origins, and/or clarify that adoption builds "real" families with their "own" children. (The right answers come more quickly with practice.) Until more people learn the modern vocabulary of "birth parents" and "children by birth" we're bound to be asked occasional seemingly insensitive questions about the child's "real parents" and our "own" children. I believe that the fault is really in our outdated language more than in the person asking an awkward question. True, some people are not as sensitive as they might be, but usually they have a genuine interest and we would rather not embarrass them (and risk making things worse). We can generally find a gracious answer that will affirm the child without sounding critical of the person asking the question."
It's so true - I always want to correct people, but I don't want to come across as too harsh, especially when they don't mean any harm - they're just curious. But, I also want to affirm my daughter in the process. It's a great article! Definitely check it out!

Urgent Situation - Baby Being Born Friday 3/27

We have an urgent situation sent to us by an agency we work with. The expectant mom will be delivering this FRIDAY via C-section in Arizona. The baby is a biracial little boy. The expectant mom had a positive Quad screen for Down's Syndrome, but an amnio showed that the baby DOES NOT have Down's. The expectant mom also consumed some alcohol in her first trimester. If you're (or ANYONE you know is) interested and are home study approved, and you could travel almost immediately, please contact me at karalee@christianadoptionconsultants.com ASAP. I can give you lots more info including fees and the full social/medical of the expectant mom.
Thanks and again, feel free to pass the word on to anyone you know who may be interested; we need to find a family for this little one!

How Do We Come Across Our Situations?

It's a common question we get:) There are so many adoption traps out there - from illegal facilitators to unethical referral services - so many people are curious as to where we get our situations from. We are adoption consultants who work with clients all across the US. We help guide people through the confusing world of adoption. Once a client signs with us we are with them from wherever they are in the process through finalization. We are not facilitators or a referral service. Malcolm and Amy Young, the directors of CAC also own and operate a licensed adoption agency in the state of Georgia. This agency is called Hope For Adoption, Inc.

The situations that I list here on the Blog and that can be found on our website come from the licensed, ethical agencies that we work with. We have the user names, passwords and a good working relationship with these agencies. Many of our clients have used these agencies and have had successful adoptions through them. We strive to find loving, Christian homes for babies who have had adoption plans made for them by expectant mothers. One of the main reasons we turned to CAC to help us adopt was because we wanted to be sure we were using ethical agencies. We couldn't afford to be taken advantage of:), and we just weren't sure who to trust as far as agencies went. It put our minds at ease to know that CAC had long-standing relationships with reputable agencies who were not only providing services to adoptive families but who were caring for and treating their potential birth mothers with the respect, compassion, and love they deserve.

As always, feel free to email me anytime with more questions or to find out more. Have a great day! :)

Beautiful Words

I wanted to post a few of my favorite adoption poems and quotes. I'm still (yes, nearly two years later:) ) working on Lily's lifebook, so I'm always searching for the right words to include. Here are some of my favorites:

We witness a miracle every time a child enters into life. But those who make their journey home across time & miles, growing within the hearts of those who wait to love them, are carried on the wings of destiny and placed among usby God's very own hands.--- Kristi Larson

I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him.---1 Samuel 1:27

Not flesh of my flesh,Nor bone of my bone,But still, miraculously my own.Never forget for a single minute,You didn't grow under my heart, But in it.- Fleur Conkling Heyliger

Our children are not ours because they share our genes...they are ours because we have had the audacity to envision them. That, at the end of the day...or long sleepless night, is how love really works.--- Unknown

LEGACY OF AN ADOPTED CHILD
Once there were two women who never knew each other. One you do not remember, the other you call Mother
Two different lives shaped to make you one. One became your guiding star, the other became your sun
The first one gave you life, and the second taught you to live it. The first gave you a need for love, the second was there to give it
One gave you a nationality, the other gave you a name. One gave you a talent, the other gave you aim
One gave you emotions, the other calmed your fears. One saw your first sweet smile, the other dried you tears
One made an adoption plan, that was all that she could do. The other prayed for a child, and God led her straight to you. Now, which of these two women, Are you the product of? Both, my darling, Both, Just two different types of love.----
Unknown

Did I miss some of your favorites? I'm always in the market for new ones, so feel free to share! :)

Adoption Books for Kids

As Lily gets older (She'll be two soon! Where in the world has the time gone?), we're starting to talk more and more to her about adoption. One of our favorite ways to talk to her about it right now is through some of the books we read to her. I thought I'd put together a list here of some of the books we read:

Little Miss Spider by David Kirk
(I love the last line, "For Finding your mother there is one certain test. You must look for the creature who loves you the best." There is a cartoon now, too, based on the books.)

A Mother for Choco by Keiko Kasza (Great for all adoptions but excellent for transracial adoptions. The ongoing theme is that a family doesn't have to all look the same.)

Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born by Jamie Lee Curtis (The first adoption book we ever read and probably my favorite. It's definitely geared toward domestic adoption. I love that it tells the story simply with great pictures and lets the child know how special she is and shows the incredible excitement the parents felt in their journey to get to her.)

Over the Moon by Karen Katz (I love all of her books. This is one is more geared toward international adoption, but can work for all adoptions. )

If you have other favorites, leave them in the comments section. I'd love to be able to add to our library and to hear about books you love!

Two New Adoption Situations

In addition to the situations posted yesterday, these two came across our desks today:)

1.) *NEW* Caucasian Unk Gender, Due in May $30K
2.) *NEW* Caucasian/Hisp Unk Gender, Due in Feb. $30K
